My daughter loves dolphins and my son, being a true brother, loves sharks. Over the years, we have studied dolphins and sharks. We've read tons of books and watched documentaries. We even went to Sea World and Anna got to swim with a four-year-old dolphin named Maggie. Anna and Quinn both had an opportunity to pet a baby shark. I wrote a dolphin unit study in order to organize all the dolphin information in my brain, and since I had done the work, I made it available to others. Since then the kids and I have been interested in polar bears, seeds, and water. We've had other interests too, but those haven't made it into unit study format. Unit studies cover one topic in depth using a variety of disciplines. So, for instance, the dolphin unit study talks about dolphin biology, dolphin social structure, the physics and biology of echolocation, how scientists study dolphins, the physics of how dolphins swim and get more energy with their strokes than seems possible, dolphin math, and art. Enjoy!
